Making Inspiration

Making Inspiration

Inspiration is often seen as this elusive spark that just happens, but I’ve found that it’s something I can cultivate through consistency and discipline. It’s not about waiting for the perfect moment—it’s about showing up every day and doing the work. Here are a few actions I take:

Consistency: Inspiration thrives when I make it a habit. By dedicating time daily to my craft, even if it is fifteen minutes a day, I create a routine that welcomes inspiration. The more consistent I am, the more ideas flow naturally. Like a muscle getting used to an exercise.

Discipline: Discipline is the backbone of creativity. It’s what keeps me going even when I don’t feel inspired. By pushing through I often discover my best ideas on the other side of resistance.

Connect with People: Some of my best ideas have come from casual conversations. I’ve found that engaging with others really opens up new perspectives and ideas.

Austin Kleon’s book, Steal Like an Artist, is a great reminder of this. He talks about how nothing is truly original and that the key to creativity is borrowing, remixing, and building on the ideas of others. But to do that effectively, you need to consistently immerse yourself in your craft and maintain the discipline to keep creating, even when it feels tough. By showing up daily I create the conditions for inspiration to strike.

Stay consistent,
