Staying Creative in the Face of Routine
When you’re stuck in the same routine, creativity can feel like it’s running on fumes. But I’ve found that there are ways to keep the spark alive, even on the most predictable days. Here’s what works for me:
Switch Up the Routine: Sometimes, I’ll take a new route, work from a different spot, or try a new coffee shop. A small change in scenery can shake things up and inspire fresh ideas.
Set Aside “Play” Time: I make time for creative “play”—no pressure, no expectations, just experimenting with something new. It’s a great way to keep the creative gears turning.
Seek Out Inspiration Daily: I try to make a habit of looking for inspiration, whether it’s a new book, a podcast, flipping through Pinterest, or just observing something interesting. It keeps my mind open and curious.
Limit Screen Time: It’s easy to get stuck in a scroll loop, but I find that stepping away from screens helps me stay more engaged with my own thoughts and ideas.
Try New Mediums: When my usual tools feel stale, I’ll switch things up. Trying a new medium or method can spark fresh inspiration.
Challenge Myself: I’ll set small, creative challenges for myself to keep things interesting. It might be as simple as a quick sketch, trying a different style, or tackling a new topic.
Reflect on My Why: When things feel routine, I revisit why I started in the first place. Connecting back to that original passion helps me stay inspired and excited.
Routine is necessary, but it doesn’t have to be a creativity killer. A few small tweaks, and I’m able to keep the spark alive, even in the most predictable days.
Here’s to keeping things fresh!
