Tips on rest, what's that?
Rest isn’t just a luxury—it’s essential. And yet, I have to remind myself I’m not a machine (even if coffee tries to convince me otherwise). Here’s how I’ve been leaning into rest and recharging lately:
Listen to Your Body: After a workout or a long day, I remind myself that rest is where the magic happens. Muscles rebuild, creativity resets, and energy restores. Pushing through exhaustion only leads to burnout.
Take Breaks from Devices: Scrolling endlessly might feel like downtime, but it’s draining in disguise. I try to unplug from my phone, social media, and emails to give my brain a real break.
Tip: Did you know you can set time limits on apps?
Enjoy Guilt-Free Rest: Rest isn’t the enemy of productivity—it’s part of it. Whether it’s a nap, stretching out on the couch, or doing absolutely nothing, I make sure to honor downtime without guilt...WITHOUT GUILT!
Recharge with Fun: I make space for things that refill my tank, like a great workout, drumming, or just zoning out to a good Pixar movie. I started contrast therapy as well, where I plunge into fifty degree water and then into a hot dry sauna, its incredible. Whatever feels restorative, lean in.
Prioritize Sleep: I used to have a horrible sleep schedule. Over the last decade I have honed in on going to bed and getting up at the same time. It has worked wonders. You can’t lift heavy, run fast, or be creative on fumes.
Tip: I use an app called Sleep Cycle that I found hella useful.
Rest isn’t about slacking off—it’s about refueling so I can hit the ground running (literally and figuratively). Take a break when you need it. Your future self will thank you.
Cheers to naps, workouts, and powering down,
